Colonel (Ret) Greg “Merc” Frana

Col (Ret) Frana served over 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired in September of 2020. His Air Force career consisted of multiple flying and command assignments in the F-15E and the F-35A. He was selected as Initial Cadre for the F-35A in 2010 and spent nearly 10 years involved with F-35A stand-up for the United States Air Force and partner nations. As a Squadron Commander for the 62d Fighter Squadron he led the first-ever multi-partner F-35A Squadron and built the foundation for F-35 operations at Luke AFB. In his final assignment as the 53d Test Management Group Commander (TMG) he led a major re-organization of the 53d Wing transforming the 53d TMG to the 753 Test and Evaluation Group. In this role, he provided Operational Test oversight, planning, execution and reporting for F-35, F-22, F-15, F-16, U-2, MQ-9, RQ-170, B-21, B-2, B-52, B-1, Space assets and other classified programs. Currently, Col (Ret) Frana leads a consulting company, Contested Domains LLC, providing fifth generation fighter aviation subject matter expertise. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of St Thomas, a master’s degree in Business Administration from Duke University and a master’s degree in National Security and Resourcing Strategy from National Defense University. He is also a 767 First Officer for UPS and has more than 3000 hours in the F-35A, F-15E, T-38, T-37, 757 and 767. Greg is married to Toni Frana and has two daughters, Ellery and Presley.
